About Learning Made Easier

Learning Made Easier was established by Christine Killey in 1994.

Christine Killey is an enthusiastic, dedicated, teacher/author with 35 years’ experience who is passionate about helping
children learn. She has developed simple, yet effective, teaching strategies that have achieved amazing results with
her students. She has an abundance of enthusiasm and creativity, which are displayed in her teaching methods and
presentations.

Chris started her teaching career in the classroom where she taught for 10 years. During this time she completed her
Bachelor of Education, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Special Education and her Masters in Special Education. She
was the coordinator of the SPELD, Victoria Learning Centre for over 8 years and has trained students studying Special
Education from Melbourne University. Chris’s tutoring business has been running for over 20 years. She still teaches in
schools for classroom demonstrations and to conduct incursions in mathematics, spelling and grammar.

Chris is a qualified “Literate for Life, LEM Phonic” instructor. Chris was trained by Evelyn Garrard the author of this
comprehensive program. Chris is a distributor of LEM phonics products. (See book list)

LEM Phonics is an intensive phonics program that teaches the student the skills of communication – listening, speaking,
reading, writing and spelling.

It uses a multi-sensory approach, using explicit teaching and analytical thinking to promote understanding of all
words taught, not rote learning. Every word is taught. Using the phonograms and rules, the student is able to make
sense of the English language, which is generally considered inconsistent. Chris’s colour coded approach to Grammar
compliments the Literate for Life LEM Phonics program and will be part of this world wide program.

Chris is a co-author of the Australian Supplement for the ‘Words Their Way’ Spelling program by Pearson and author
of many books other books on spelling, grammar and mathematics. She has combined her years of experience and
her creative ideas into her books and has recently released 200 NEW graded spelling games to help teach the spelling
strategies and help make all children independent spellers.

Chris is a regular presenter at SPELD, LDA and Pearson events. Her presentations are entertaining, inspiring, hands
on and practical. She has presented at many International Conferences and presents regularly at schools all around
Australia.
